I wrote a post just the other day on the shadows that we would be collectively seeing emerge as Pluto really anchors into Aquarius, which will be happening from November 19 onwards.
An Astrologer and friend of mine, Cameron Allen, commented, “Another thing to add is that many emphasise that Pluto in Aquarius can bring a crisis of humans consistent path towards becoming more sterile. It’s already happening, but it might become more apparent in the collective mind”.
As a Sign, but also an Archetypal energy, Aquarius is the water bearer- the one that baptises us and opens us to the sacred and heavenly waters of the divine.
You could argue, that the large movement of people away from New Age Spirituality, which is a movement that was catalysed into momentum by “The Godmother of the New Age”, Helena Petrovna Blavatsky (Russian Occultist and Co-Founder of Theosophical Society in 1875), is because of this evolutionary transition into what has been called “The Aquarian Age”, aka The Golden Age. Whilst most Astrologers do not agree on the time period that The Aquarian Age actually spans, we can definitely feel its evolutionary edge with Plutos transition into Aquarius.
I believe that one of the drivers away from New Age Spirituality to Christianity, is the allure of purity, which is one of the shadows of Pluto in Aquarius.
The desire to transcend our human form and suffering - to become one with our eternal, divine nature.
Which, in a sense, is the desire to transcend our humanity - which is messy, flawed and beautifully wounded.
It’s easier to not feel. To not have to be vulnerable and to admit to our shortcomings and mistakes. To not have to bow down and apologise. Lord, it would be much easier to just give it over to some illusionary God and let it all go, never having to face it all again. There are many days where I have a deep longing to disappear, start afresh and not have to show up for my responsibilities.
Aquarius as an archetype relates to The Messiah - its shadow being the Messiah Complex. Feeling holier than thou. Above others experiences. Transcendent of our human flesh and form.
The shadow counterpart - the dark and feral feminine. The part of us that relishes in the chaos and the mess. This is the part that gets squashed and pushed down when we are in purity consciousness. And where does it go? It still lives in you - it just ends up seeping out of you in the form of addiction.
Think: the priests that deny sexual desire as a sin, then end up with charges of molestation.
We are not born into this Earthly form to replicate the form of God or Goddess. We are here to learn the awkard, sometimes painful journey of what it means to discover the divine within this imperfect, human vessel and incarnation.
I read a post recently about how we shouldn’t drink if we are doing spiritual work.
It was one of the sparks for this blog.
I used to avoid all substances - I went through an 8 year cycle of removing all substances from my reality. I did this, because I was an addict when I was younger and went into drug induced psychosis at just 21. It lasted for 2 years. I had to journey the route of substance celibacy, to really purify my own body and psychological state. I was also far too sensitive for substances for a long time. I still am in many respects - I know my limits and do not take any macro doses of substances.
I do, however, enjoy the occasional dark ale, stout or glass of red wine.
Sometimes it feels great to really just let go and enjoy life.
And I strongly believe that the pursuit of always feeling “clean”
Always eating “clean”
Always avoiding harmful substances or “toxic” people can be a similar mechanism to the purity complex I speak about before - it is a way to avoid feeling.
Alcohol is a divine shadow medicine.
It evokes the more cathartic suppressed aspects of our psyche.
Of course, dosage is important - many people use it as a way to let go, without having healthy outlets for emotional expression. I believe that the more we get in contact with our emotional nature - our feeling nature - the less need we have for unconscious “release” methods and the less of a desire there is for addiction.
The dark feminine needs to take her space in our inner realms - suppress her and she takes over your behaviour in the form of cravings.
So when we talk about the Shadow of Aquarius being the desire for purity - this is what I am talking about. It is the desire to strip ourselves of our Humanity.
Pluto, as a planet, represents power, transformation and is the planet that is involved with unearthing the shadow. It’s cycles influence which collective shadows are being stirred and bought to the surface to be revealed and transformed.
You can read more about Pluto’s evolutionary influence on the collective, in Jeffrey Wolf Green book, Pluto: The Evolutionary Journey of the Soul.
As Pluto cycles into Aquarius, where it will remain until 2043, we will see a number of drastic shifts in humanity.
This is the evolutionary cycle that is seeing the development of new AI technologies and which, in Cameron’s words, could lead to the sterilisation and replacement of what we know today as the modern human.
In the last cycle of Pluto in Aquarius, was the era in which bridged the Age of Enlightenment and the Industrial Revolution. The Age of Enlightenment spanned the 17th and 18th centuries and was also known as the “age of reason” because of intellectualisation and synthesis of many new rational ideas and revelations about the Universe, God and Spirituality. We also saw the development of the first secularised theories of psychology. It was a time when Newton was able to prove certain mathematical equations related to planetary motion. We started to see the movement away from purely just trusting the divine, to being able to rationalise the divine.
It was a time when the higher mind was developing and new exciting intellectual phenomena to support the advancement of human consciousness was taking place.
In the Industrial revolution, we saw the innovation of machinery that started to liberate humans out of having to labor so hard, so that they could be more efficient and skilful.
What we are seeing now with this current cycle into Pluto in Aquarius, with technological and intellectual advancement of planetary and human consciousness, feels similar - but, just further along the evolutionary scale.
For example, this time, our advancement of human intellect involves the advancement of AI - tools like Chat GTP, which have an IQ that nearly match Einsteins at 155, are being developed and widely accessible to all, for equal access and opportunity for intellectual consciousness advancement.
We are also seeing technological advancement of machinery - this time, with humanoid robotics, which may even end up with access to human like consciousness.
I grew up with the purity stigma. It led myself and many of my peers into the contrast of addiction and luckily back out. My sobriety is a channel the invites play as well as integrity and mindfulness and frequently involves all the things you mentioned: wine and dark beer especially this time of year. I'm a human and I like myself this way.
