Help me turn writing into a career, not just something I do on the side. Your paid subscription helps me carve out real time for essays — the deeper, slower pieces that I can take my time to write whilst I sip my Oolong in the morning.
Paid subscribers get early (and full) access to new essays, occasional behind-the-scenes notes on what I’m working through & monthly live guest speaker interviews. I hope you enjoy this article.

I have a low key, mild obsession with the Underworld.
Actually, it is not low key at all.
This article is behind a paywall, because it shares parts of myself and my journey that I am not comfortable with being public.
I do not have any regrets, however I do not exactly want to wave a massive red flag around, or to open myself to the kinds of judgments that will come, when I tell parts of my story that have largely been left behind closed doors, or in the confines of rooms of close friends who I trust implicitly.
Today, for whatever the reason, I am being asked to share a little bit about some of these parts of my journey’s — parts of me that have dove head space into the Underworld, with a hunger to know the darkness that is mostly veiled in places behind lock and key.
I called this article, “please do not tell me not to do something” because I wanted to share about some of my core psychologies — my inherited defiance and the ways in which I constantly push back against people when they tell me that I cannot do something.
