There is a fire in my belly, this morning.

This morning, I woke up and one of the first things on my “to-list” (aside from the endless mothering duties and line up for the morning) was organising a PR campaign for my upcoming feature in Women Reporter for my upcoming book launch The MotherWild Revolution: Cultural Change through Generational Activism.

As always, my greatest revelations for the day come when I am sitting on the shower floor, sipping my tea, getting in my half an hour of solo time, before Caerulea wakes up after me.

This morning, as I was sitting with how I wanted to be positioned for this feature, I started to feel my belly light with fire.

A mix of anger and passion swirling around as one.

The core message of this book, is so vital and important to the world and is really one of the root core issues buried amongst all of the current global conflict and war.

The Mother Wound.

Well, more specifically — the Mother Wound that never gets looked at and addressed.

We all have one. Undoubtedly.

The Wound is Collective. It is Archetypal.

And it lives within the wombs of all Mothers - and the bodies and psyche of men who have never bowed at the feet of / revered their own Mothers.

The Mother Wound plays out everywhere - on the surface, it looks like violence, anger, resentment.

If we just look at the surface emotion and never really decipher the deeper layers, we get stuck.

The mother wound refers to the emotional, psychological, and sometimes spiritual pain or trauma that stems from a woman's relationship with her mother—particularly when that relationship was neglectful, critical, controlling, or lacked nurturing and support.

If we think about the qualities that are imbued by healthy Mothering - nurturing, safety, compassion, love and nourishment, then the opposite is also true, for those of us that have not had healthy mothering - we can feel undernourished, neglected and like we are unable to care for ourselves.

But let’s go one layer deeper.

Let’s look at the reason Mothers are often unable to provide this to their children.

In Ancient Cultures (and even in some existing cultures today, like in India and other parts of the world that have still maintained and upheld connection to their more pagan root systems), Mother was at the centre of society. We worshipped and revered the Mother as the life giver - the one that provides us with the sustenance we need to grow and live a healthy and full life.

Mothers were cared for, supported by communities and their role was to nurture the children. The coming generation.

She was not expected to be a provider. She was not expected to look after herself.

This is an expression of modern day patriarchal led societies. And it is the reason why so many mothers are bitter, resentful - and unable to give their children the lover and devotion they need to thrive in the world.

This leaves us with a paradigm in society, where so many people are walking around, devoid of self intimacy, or the inability to nourish themselves - and bitter and resentful at the world, because the root of this disconnection is so deep and unconscious that they cannot even see it for themselves.

It breeds violence and destruction.

Because instead of being taught love, we were left longing for our mothers at an early age - because they were out working or unable to be with us, because of the extra stressors they had on them, just to survive.

We desperately need to change this narrative.
If we want to heal the collective root of trauma and violence in the world - we cannot look to surface level solutions. We need to tend to the Mothers that are raising the next generation of children and make sure they have the sustenance they need to raise children who are loved, cared for and that feel safe in the world.

This is the premise of my book The MotherWild Revolution which, by the way, releases online and across the globe in book stores next month.

The book focuses on the macro themes and micro lense of Matrescence : the wild and primal journey of Becoming Mother and the changes that occur, both physiologically, psychologically and spiritually that occur when one embarks on this new journey of creation.

I was always creative, but I never knew (or expected) that my creative journey in this lifetime would involve becoming a Mother. I was not prepared for it, nor would I have been able to prepare for it.

On the weekend, when I was down in Tasmania for Kiasmos, I caught up with an old friend who asked me if I ever wanted to be a Mother. The answer for me is convoluted. I never really wanted to be a Mother. I never played with dolls as a child and I never longed for a family of my own… but my vision showed me that one day I would have children (more than one - so watch this space).
In Human Design, inner vision is my primary and most accurate sense - I always see things that are going to play out in my life and my primary decisions are often made on visions that I have, not deep boned longings or desires.

Sometimes I wish it would just be enough for me to “want” something and then to manifest it - it is just not the way that I work and is not my design.

After months of delays, because of copywrite issues with our last title “MotherCulture”, we have now released our new book with the title change and you can pre-order your copy to delivered next month here.
