I loved reading this, Sigourney. Such a vital and grounding perspective. Over the last few years I’ve been following the Catholic and broader Christian threads in my own lineage. I hear what you’re saying about one not needing to “become Christian” and I agree of course but for me it’s been so invigorating to integrate this part of my family tradition and spiritual heritage rather than mock it or hold myself above it, as if my adopted Eastern worldviews made me somehow superior. Coming home to the tradition of my grandmothers has actually been a joy.

And yet of course my years exploring practices like Buddhist meditation genuinely opened depth doorways I’m so grateful for, so now lineages such as Christian mysticism and contemplation land in a way they mightn’t have when I was younger.

Have you read Meditations on the Tarot? I imagine you’re familiar with it, it’s been on my list for a while as a resource on Christian Hermeticism, and you’ve just reminded me to finally get a copy!

It looks like a goodie. Also, on the “it’s too patriarchal” line of thinking you mention, I wonder how many people realise how misogynistic the Buddhist canon is in parts. Like no shade, these traditions are all products of their time, but the East is definitely not immune to men > women dynamics.
